"When courses provided extensive, intellectually challenging writing activities, students . . . grappled more with course ideas both in and out of the classroom. These students also reported greater personal, social, practical, and academic learning and development."

National Survey of Student Engagement, (pp. 21-23; 2008)

Welcome to SFSU's WAC/WID home page

We hope professors can use this website as an aid to creating intellectually challenging writing activities in their disciplines. The site describes SFSU's upper-division writing requirement, and offers a sampling of materials from writing intensive classes. For fall 2009, professors can follow up on discussions we've been having in workshops by posting on theĀ  Forum .

The Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), the Committee on English Proficiency (CWEP), and Academic Affairs share responsibility for university-wide WAC.
